Has it gone? Can I look yet? …

Wow, what a crap fest 2020 was, right up to the last day!

On New Year’s Eve I realised I wasn’t going to be able to suffer the pain any more over the upcoming long weekend, and so got an emergency appointment at the dentist and had two teeth removed. That doesn’t leave me with a vast selection any more.

Roll on 2021, I thought.

Hmmm….

Welcome to 2021. Welcome to … A new lock down until at least the end of January! Wonderful!

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a firm believer that severe and stringent world-wide lock downs should have been implemented a LONG time ago, rather than the on-off, wishy-washy, part-time, are we-aren’t we debacles that we’ve had here in Scotland and other parts of the UK. Harm to the economy? … The longer this goes on the GREATER harm it does to the economy. Everyone’s!

But, as someone who lives alone with their (separated from) wife as their only regular person-to-person contact, I really didn’t need this right now.

Plus, despite sheltering as I consider myself to be in one of the higher risk categories, I WILL be heading down town on occasions to partake of a couple of take-away coffees at my favourite, locally run cafe. I NEED to get out of the house. I NEED to see a friendly face, someone to talk to, even if only for a few minutes.

I NEED to see humanity; fellow coffee drinkers, people walking their dogs. All well socially distanced, of course. I really need to be able to meet up with my trans and LGBT+ friends again; to be around people who understand, and to just have a normal form of life again.

But maybe most of all I need light. The days are short and my sleep patterns are so messed up.

The good news on the horizon is that the inoculations are starting to be rolled out. I guess I’ll probably get mine around the end of February-ish. AND that Orange Disgrace will be leaving the White House, hopefully to be replaced with something more akin to a literate human being who understands and abides by the law.

Does this New Year hold any more positives? I hope it does, for all of us. I’m certainly living on a prayer…

Take care, and stay safe.

  1. Unfortunately these things don’t have calendars, we’ve still a way to go! For those of us who live alone it is tough, but for some it is a perfect storm, living alone, with a disability and no bubble as one of my friends is ~ I’m not sure I could bare that!

    • Hi Paula,
Yes, I do appreciate that I’m lucky to still have some mobility left so as to be able to escape these four walls, and that there are people who are much lonlier than myself. The sooner this is all over the better.

  2. Sorry to hear about your teeth, Tish.

I definitely been where you are now. Eventually after years of getting them yanked a bit at a time, I finally had the rest (12) pulled and got dentures, thankfully I was about to receive them through a charity dental clinic for far less than it would have been, and even than I had to ask my parents for the money. I can’t tell you how much I like having to ability to eat almost anything I want. I will admit they are a nuisance at times. Occasionally they need re-doing, and cleaning the gunk off my my gums and roof of my mouth is a bit much sometimes. Hope you are recovering from having those teeth pulled.

I hear you are going to another lockdown in the UK. So, sorry your coffee dates will have to be postpone. In my county restaurants have no indoor seating and it is not exactly outdoor dining weather. It is chilly and rainy a lot.

More light is on the way. Hang in there sweetie.

As you mentioned the psychopath president of the US. I believe he is responsible for the attack on the Capital today. He should be charge with treason, as should be the ones physically doing the unlawful entry and violence. I am still holding my breath for the 20th. It is interesting that some of those who were going to object have changed their minds. This includes the Kelly Loeffler, who lost her bid to retain her senate seat. With the loss of the other incumbent the Senate will soon be in Democrats’ hands. This should help a lot. Finally we will have a coordinate attack on covid-19. And more help for the American people. And most important from my own personal concerns and other transgender and gender non-conforming persons we should be able to gain rights we do not have, and for me Medicare will start paying for gender affirming surgery. But, like I said I am holding my breath.

Sorry for such a long comment, but you struck a number of notes that are playing in my brain.

    All the best,
    Stephie
