Talking Silhouette

Which well known people or charcters said the following?

  1. “When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.”
  2. “You’re mad, bonkers, off your head! But I’ll tell you a secret: all the best people are.”
  3. “You’re never too old to be young”
  4. “Success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm”
  5. “The best way to predict the future is to create it”

  8. “Rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life”

Stay safe.

In a state of shock. Good shock!

Those of you who know me well will be aware that I have struggled financially for many years, my only personal income being some meagre pensions which I had to draw out many years too early in order to survive after my accident almost 13 years ago.

That is about to change.

Desperate for the knife, but not where you’d think

Well here’s a blog post I didn’t expect to be writing during this lifetime.

I went for a coffee with some friends yesterday evening, and during the conversation I showed them the problems I have with my feet. These are numerous, (the problems, not my feet), but the main non-medical issue is the size of them.

In order to be able to get ANY footwear on I need to buy a UK size 13, (EU 47, US 14, CM 31.5) and, because of the high instep and circulatory problems I have, a wide fitting is also needed.

This makes buying Men’s shoes really difficult, and women’s shoes virtually impossible, something which really jerks up the dysphoria rating.

Made up before being made up

I had an appointment at the Gender Identity Clinic in Edinburgh earlier and things didn’t start well as I had got the time wrong and arrived an hour late.

Fortunately I was still seen, and just as I was leaving the clinician said to me “You’re looking really super anyway.”  Given how stressed out I was feeling this was so good to hear, and it gave me a boost.

I hadn’t had time to put any lippy on before going in to see him, and had no makeup on at all, so before I left I headed for the little girls room, put some my favourite lippy on, and generally checked that all was in order. I also had a new pair of sunglasses with me that I had bought recently and, with it being such a bright and sunny day, I slipped those on as well.

I had only just left the building and turned the next corner when a voice from just behind me said “You’re looking nice!”.

I turned to look at who had spoken, and a hippyish woman of indeterminate age between 20 and 50 was smiling at me as she crossed the road.

“Thank you!” I beamed at her. “Thank you!”

That’s the first time a stranger has said that to me in public and it totally made my day!

I’m seeing Jenny at 4:30 to get my makeup done for tonight, (see the previous post), but I’m already well made up!! 😀

This is a good day!

Tonight’s the night, and it feels like the Oscars

Here we are at last.

Tonight is the Awards Ceremony for the Fife Voluntary Action Volunteering and Voluntary Sector 2018 Awards in which the group I help run, Transgender Fife, is shortlisted in the Equality and Diversity section.

We were amazed to have been shortlisted so we’re certainly not expecting to win, and we know that the other candidates will all be very worthy of the award. We wish them all well.

Double standards and gagging orders – Part deux

Original post

You know what?  I really can’t be bothered to make a case in my own defence.

While I was enjoying a coffee out with a friend of mine earlier and we were clucking away like the couple of old hens we are it crossed my mind that I really don’t need all the angst and emotional upheaval that’s been going on in my life lately.

All I need is to be ME.

Being ME is enjoyable. Being ME is relaxing. Being ME is less stressful than worrying about what other people think of me. Being ME is healthy!!!

So, to hell with the past!  This girl is only looking forward and upwards, and watch out because she’s a handful !!! 😀

Hope everyone has as good a day as I’ve had. 🙂

Now get those hips a-moving because for all of you and for me “The Only Way is UP!”

Community work award nomination

I’m very proud to announce that the community group I help to run, Transgender Fife, has just been nominated for an award in the category “Equality and Diversity Award” in this years’ Fife Voluntary Actions Awards.
This is an incredible achievement for us in such a short time, and reflects both the dedication and hard work that is put in to the group, and the support we all give each other and those around us.
If I can ever stop blushing I’ll keep you updated as to whether or not we get short-listed.

Motivational Quotes page

As I read more and more I regularly come across phrases which resonate with me as a transgendered individual.

Some I consider to be helpful for my own feelings of self worth, some I find might be useful for me to use when at the Gender Identity Clinic fighting for my right to hormones and possibly eventual surgery, and some I consider to just be simply motivational in their own right.

My memory not being what it was I decided to start recording some of them, and then it occurred to me that doing so on the blog would be a good way of sharing them too.

With that in mind I’ve now added a “Quotes” page, as you can see in the tabs.

It’s only small for now but I’m sure it will fill up fast as I feel more and more empowered by the strength of the transgender community out there.

Have a good day y’all. 🙂
